Randy,
Of course I remember you. It's not every day (at least not for me) that someone breaks a clay valentine heart in front of you to demonstrate what a cad you are. Believe it or not, a lesson learned.
No longer a total jerk (though, sadly, not totally grown up either), I live in Hyde Park, New York, with a wife whose heart remains unbroken, two (gasp!) adolescent boys (who have been taught never to behave like their father did), and a dog - cute, but spayed. Really, I've been incredibly lucky, and I'm generally a happy guy. Cynical (so I don't get too disappointed), but happy.
Sorry I didn't respond the first time - brave of you to venture a second time - but I don't often check the Wel-Met website; e-mail usually works. My little (53, double gasp!) brother, Peter, and my sister still live on LI, close to my parents in West Hempstead (you have a great memory), and we get together fairly often. I love living in the Hudson Valley - lots of great outdoors stuff nearby, and so close to Rhinebeck and Woodstock that I can pretend we're cool, even though our life is pretty ordinary (but in a good way). We love all kinds of music - bluegrass (one son is a fiddler), classical, The Band, klezmer - wait a minute, is this starting to sound like a Facebook page? I'll stop.
It really made me happy to hear from you - I always enjoy thinking about camp, but I also love how strong connections between human beings can be, that, 40+ years just evaporates.
If we are 100 mile radius neighbors, would you care to get together? It's OK either way.
Regards,
Andy
