Hi Roberta. So glad that you found the message board I started last year. Looks like It's become our little corner of the world from the Wel-Met days.

Me and my family are starting to get settled into life in Charlotte, after being in Calif for the last 20 years. Some culture shock, but Charlotte is beatuiful, and much slower paced than Calif and of course NY.

Hope everyone from the old days is doing well, and keep the postings coming. Love to all.

Wasn't it "...I'd rather not PICK Joyce..."?

I'm not surprised so many people remember that song...I'd be more surprised if anyone could forget it.

Does anyone else remember Eddie Kutchy-katchy-kama-tosa-eera-tosa-nosa ? (I'm not sure about the spelling, but you get the idea).

I'm so happy to see my tent-mate Roberta here!

I'm getting more & more excited about this reunion. Are people really planning to go? I live in Manhattan, so anyone in the area who wants to go together, please get in touch.

’74 Pioneers Photos & Reunion

Roberta, welcome and THANK YOU! I just saw the pictures you posted from Pioneers in 1974 and they’re great. Of all the pictures that were on the site before this, none of them were from our years there. I can barely remember what I looked like with long hair (not as extreme as Rosie’s afro, of course) and it was great seeing what everyone looked like back when they were the age my daughter is now.

It’s funny that after all these years, I can still remember most of the names and faces…

Carey, it’s great to hear from you as well. If I remember correctly, I think you were working in Narrowsburg in 1976 – the same year I worked there as the AAA…working in the “Canteen” and driving the 1940s-era pickup truck to deliver milk and cookies to the unit shacks.

Steve, I’m glad you and your family are settling in to your new home in Charlotte. North Carolina is a nice, calm place to raise a family – I think you’ll really like it there. By the way, I’m going to be in Charlotte on business on June 26-27. If we don’t get a chance to meet at the reunion, maybe we can get together when I’m there this summer.

Patti (and everyone else), I’m definitely planning on attending the reunion. I may have to be in Dallas on business on the first day, but even if I do, I’ll be arriving at LaGuardia around 6:30 pm that evening. It’s later than I’d prefer, but I can get a rental car and give anyone a ride up to camp or car pool with anyone from the city who’s going up around then.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again on the 30th anniversary of our Western Trip!

Hi! Thank you Roberta! The pictures are fun and bring back many wonderful memories!

Ron, I know Carey and I will need a ride. I'll be off the Deegan by Hillman Ave. So if you are visiting your mom, my Dad is in the Amalgamated. Carey lives in NYC. I think Roberta needs a ride too. Let's figure out who is going, who has a car, and we'll car pool!

What do we need to bring? Sheets, food (I'm bringing food for sure!). How do we decide which bunks or units to sleep in? This is exciting!

Janet and Joyce, where are you emails? Are you on the site?

Keeping this short, gotta go. This is going to be a blast from the past!

LOVE,

Patti/Deer

Roberta,

Finally had a chance to look at the photos you posted. So many familier faces and memories. Can't believe it's been 30 years since the Western Trip, but the calander dosen't lie.

I travel a lot for my job, but will try to clear my schedule for the reunion in June. Love and peace.

Wanted to put in a hello from Stephen Kramer to all of you (from his brother Michael, Western trip #2, 1977). He doesn't have internet access at the moment, but I showed him this thread recently and he was glued to it for a good while and had fond memories of everyone.

Thanks Michael. I was wondering if Stephen was on. There are lots of Western Trip pics he'd be happy to see!

What's the odds that you and he will come to the reunion? T'would be GREAT to see you both...

Anyone been in touch with Larry Barker? Josh and Julie Pearlman (Nina - get them to come on board!!!).

Mr.Sid!

What are the odds I can convince Mr. Steve to make it to such an event? What do you think? I would love to do it, but taking care of the twins will dictate my availability.
No recent contact that I know of with Big Bells, although I'd like to say hello. Ran a few Google searches on him and came up empty.

By the way, my brother repeated the phrase "went to the rodeo... got ripped" about 5 times as he was reading the thread.

Great picture of the family, and glad to hear all is well.

Da Bears!

Ask Stephen how much those 2 bottles of pepsi cost us (see Western Trip picture). We were at a county fair in Bryan OH and we played this game where you had to toss these little rings onto the necks of soda bottles that were in the middle area. Despite representing 2 of VCJC's finest at the guard position, we were no match for that contest. I think we spent about $10 bucks each - a lot of money when we only had $100 in our pockets to last the whole summer... which is another amazing thing when you think about it - $100 covered 6 weeks of snacks and souveniers and gifts for people at home - how'd we do that?

If not the reunion, I'll find a way to get down to the city and see you and the family and Mr. Steve. It's been too long (my fault). Glad you're well.

Hi! Asked my mom to get in touch with The Barkers and tell them about the website. Brandi is in touch with Mandy so she believes Larry knows via Mandy.

I need to start making reservations for the summer. Can anyone pick me up Thursday the 9th at my Dad's and take me to camp? What about Steven, since you live near him. Can we entice you to go to camp this June?

This is so nice, kinda feel like a teenager going to camp again. Wel Met was definitely some of the best times as a kid.

I have been speaking to Josh since he is almost local. I have emailed Julie several times. Hope they are planning to go!

Cannon Heights - Apartments “DH” and “15 J”

Hi Jeff,

It’s funny that you showed up on the site because I was just thinking of you last week.

I was in our local Borders bookstore and saw a group of women sitting around a table playing…you guessed it…Mah Jhong. I remember we used to come down to your apartment to watch Batman (in COLOR!) because you were the first person we knew that had a color TV.

On more than one occasion, I have clear memories of your mom and her friends playing with the Mah Jhong tiles at the kitchen table. (Do you remember the “special knock” we used that had your mom announce: Jeffrey, your friends are here!)

Anyway, great to hear from you.

Hi Jeff Antin,

How are you? Where are you? You didn't say hi to me and I am a Bronx person (female)! It's been many years!

Who of these "Bronx" people are going to the reunion? And when and can I get a ride? I need to know because, it will determine when I will fly in. Can anyone help out?

Hi Patti,

I don't have my plans exactly finalized yet, but it looks like I'll be driving up to New York with my family on June 8 or 9 for the weekend. I should be able to give you a ride up to camp and maybe take a few other people.

We're still working out plans with my Mom in the Bronx and my sister (a two-year Wel-Met alum) who lives in Ridgefield, CT.

I'll keep you posted as I know more.

so good to hear from you all

Greetings all.

Your words and pictures bring back some great memories.

Sidney, it is great to hear you and your family are well.
Michael, I am very, very happy to hear about your babies. And trust me, parenting does get easier.
Jeffrey (S), I'm glad you are happy being back on the west coast. I'm sorry you have had some rough times. They will make you stronger.
Jeff (A), it is just good knowing you are well.
Ron R., Patty, Brandy, et al, it does me good to hear your voices.

Now, let's get a few things straight.

Being one of the best guards in VCJC history is not exactly the highest achievement one should aspire to.
Michael, keep your hands off of my sister.

I have lived in Pennsylvania for about 15 years. We really like it here. I have been married to Lynne for 16 years. She is the best thing in my life. I have two sons, Zack and Luke. Zack is 13, Luke is 9.

I hope this is the start of rekindling some old and dear friendships. I think of you all often. I would love to go to the reunion. I hope we all go.

In order to keep the lines of communication open, let me end with two bits of trivia.

Ron R. had a BB gun or some kind of air rifle during the Western Trip. He named it (Michael, you may want to help him). Who can remember its name.

What are the ending 8 words to "watched the rodeo, got ripped, watched the rodeo got ripped".

Whoever can answer will win an extra glass of bug juice at the Wel-Met Reunion.

With fondest regards and hoping to see you all soon,

Larry

Thank you Ron for coming through! Now I can make reservations for the 8th to NY.

I really want to be in camp on Thursday and pray that others can make it that soon. Carey, can you change one work day so you can go up sooner?

Welcome Larry! Please send love to Hilary and Mandy! Are they tuning in to this website? Will we be seeing you in camp?

What about Jeff Antin? Will you show up?

Dave Miller, you are supposed to be here too. Why did you have to go? I was hoping to see you and I'm sure other people would have loved to see you too! Your smiling, uplifting face will be missed. I loved your radical views and ideas. I think we would have shared similiar ideas.

Roberta, has Adina been able to contact Rob and tell him about the website?

Has anyone heard from Andrea "mousey" ?

What about Stu and Barbara the counselors? How many of us did they turn on?

Yipsy, will you come to the reunion?

Norm, I remember you. Will you show up in camp this June?

How do we find all the other missing campers?

Almost a quorum!

Hey Larry, Hey Jeff,

The Bronx contingent is almost all here on the board.

This is so great that after all these years we are back in contact. Will be great to see anyone and everyone at the reunion.

OK, so I was never really a great shooter (OK, I bricked lay-ups)... I was a defensive and hustle specialist.

I have not really kept in touch directly with anyone over the years, but did hear about some of you through my parents and brother. I did see Patti at my folks house in FL about 3 years ago, and Larry, also saw your parents there during that same trip so they filled me in a bit. Also saw Stephen about 3 years ago when I stopped through the Bronx during a business trip, and heard kept tabs on Michael K. via my brother. FYI, Glenn Silverstein lives in AZ - I've bumped into him a couple of times and one of these days we're supposed to play golf. He keeps in touch with Ronson.

I recall it was the Rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming that served up those icy cold Olympia 12 oz-ers. I think I was trashed on about 3 but kept going anyway. Never had been drunk before that, really, but have had a few since.

hey ron.

now you are really going back in time. instead of just 30+ years, you are pushing almost 40 year old memories.. that's scary.

I've driven by the building every once in a while on my way to the Bronx Courthouse (Very round about way) and i often wonder if anyone still lives there. well, maybe 10 years ago i still wondered, didn't really expect anyone still would. Can't believe your mom is still there. Doris, right? Hope she is doing OK.

Anyway, glad to hear you are doing well.

amalgamated group

Hi Patti, Larry and Sid.

Larry, I can't remember the last time I saw or spoke to you. seems like we just dissapeared from each other's lives. too bad.

I was close to Hillary for a while when we were both living in L.A. but lost touch with her when we both moved back to new york.

I would stop by and see your dad occasionally in the garage maybe 15 years ago, before your parents moved to florida and coincidentally, i ran into them with Mandy and her husband on a cruise mabe 8 to 10 years ago.

I always loved your parents. Our families were so close and I can't tell you how nice a surprise it was to see them. Please say hello for me.

Patti, how are you?

I was going to say hello. I promise. It sounds like you have been on quite a journey all these years. Your life must be most interesting.

Do you remember the last time i saw you? You were going to school in Buffalo for a bit and I invited you to a small get together some of my friends were having and when I drove you home, it was snowing and it looked so beautiful out. You had already traveled all over by then, if i remember.

And Sid, the last time I saw you was in 1985 when I was driving back cross country after living in L.A. we went out to lunch and you showed me your house. Although the memory of you that stands out is when you crashed at my house in Buffalo after you hitchhicked there from Binghamton with your fellow pledges, all carrying umm..teddy bears. Do you still have yours?

My inlaws have since moved out to the Phoenix area and I have been there a few times recently. Seems like a beautiful place to live.

Anyway, glad to hear you are all doing well and I am glad we got to connect.

Talk soon.

J

Cliff you emailed about the rodeo in Cheyenne. Does anyone remember the cowboys and fans in their seats throwing food at us? I seem to remember this. It was so awful on the horses and bulls having their balls tied up. I remember quietly protesting.

Sid, where is Glen Silverstein? Is he in Phoenix with you or up north. I am going to Arizona after the reunion where I'll be camping all summer about 18 miles north of the Grand Canyon. Anyone can come visit.......

I remember hanging out with Glen's younger brother about 6 years ago when I visited my Dad.

Where is Steve Ronson?

I saw Andrea Levine about 3 years ago in Richmond, Virginia.

Elise Cohen will email me about once a year. I saw her about 3 years ago too. Justice and I visited her in Westchester where she bought a house.

Jeff Antin, where are you these days? How is your sister, Debbie?

It will be real nice to see everyone. Hope we can all make it!

wow this is great

Hey everyone,

Jeff Rosenberg, aka "Rosie" here.

This is tremendous, like a snowball, the old Wel-Met contacts keep growing. I've been growing my Wel-Met e-mail group.

It seems like people are scattered all over the place. The reunion should be pretty cool. Are there a lot of people in the NY area. We should have a mini-reunion. Hell, I would even host a B-B-Q for you and your familes at my home (in NJ).

Anyway - keep writing and finding new people. talk to you guys soon.

Roberta - I haven't seen or heard from Jesse since around 1988. I heard the same thing about Israel and a bunch of kids, but I can't remember where I heard it. I think it might have been Cliff, although I don't remember being in touch with him since that time either. (Cliff - are you out there? Do you remember something I don't?)

Rosie (and everyone) - My email address is cbmaslow@aol.com. Use it! Or use this - I check it pretty regularly. (I'm sort of addicted).

Other than via Janet Jupiter - who is still apparently in contact with Jessie's cousin Lanny (who also went to WM) - I think that is the source of the only link to Jessica in the Holy Land. I was in NYC with Jessie in the mid-80's (87 ?) while she was still in school if I am not mistaken. She had a dorm room in NYC; I think it was at a nursing school. We went to dinner - at a place long since closed does anyone remember Hisae's? - and drank some vino - and laughed alot.

We faded out over time and it has been too many years. I will never forget those eyes, the laugh, the MIND and the stunning, timeless beauty of that woman.

(As if you couldn't tell, Jessica was the absolute WM love of my life and I wish I could talk with her just one more time in my lifetime - sometime. )

Jessie, wherever you are - We all miss you !!!

Cliff -
You're right - it was nursing school, and then she was a visiting nurse in NYC for a while, and lived not far from me on the west side. This was around 1987 or 8-ish. Then, I moved out of that apartment kind of abruptly, and left NY (and the country) for a year or so, and when I got back she had disappeared. I still kick myself for not getting in touch before I left, and finding a way to maintain contact.

She'll find us, though. Israel is only a click away, and sooner or later she's bound to google Wel-met. Doesn't everyone?
